Concierge

What do they do?

The concierge is one of the first people that a guest will interact with upon entering a hotel. They must be friendly and very well organized, as they have a wide range of responsibilities, including answering the phone, arranging events and transportation, making recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants, and monitoring who is entering and exiting the hotel for safety reasons.

Why is it exciting?

If you are truly a people-person, you will truly enjoy this job. Every day is a chance to meet new people from around the world. In fact, this job could take YOU around the world, as there are is no shortage of hotels and resorts to work at all over the globe. In addition, it is essential that you become very familiar with the city that you work in. This means you should do your research: visit beaches, see a show, eat at local restaurants, go shopping. Event Manager

What do they do?

An event manager is essential in the communication between clients and anyone else involved in the event planning process, such as decorators, wait staff, rental companies and caterers. They are responsible for coordinating every detail of the event to make sure that everything goes smoothly, while ensuring quality standards and public safety. An event manager must have top notch organizational skills and be able to remain calm under pressure.

Why is it exciting?

As hectic as it may be, it can be very satisfying to see all your hard work come to life through trade shows, conventions, fundraisers, exhibits and performances. Every successful event is a goal achieved, and every upcoming event is a new challenge. Never a dull moment.

Cruise Line Staff

What do they do?

Working on a cruise line is a work hard, play hard type of situation. You must work every day that you are on board, but on your breaks and during downtime, you may have access to crew-only areas of the ship, which may include private gyms, bars and dining rooms. Some of the job positions available include deck crew, hosts/hostesses, customer service representatives, reservation agents, cruise directors, and shore excursion managers.

Why is it exciting?

Depending on your position (different positions have varying permissions), you may have the chance to disembark and experience different countries as you dock in various locations. Another perk is that you have virtually no living expenses while working on a cruise ship; your workplace is your home as well. You will form close relationships with the people that you work aboard with every day and meet passengers from all walks of life.
