A Holiday Message of Gratitude and Thanks

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner and 2019 will be but a distant memory. I could feel myself getting caught up in the busyness of it all, but came to the realization that I needed to step back, be mindful and take some time to reflect on what this year has meant to me.

It has been an abundant, amazing year for the Flight Attendant program and as per usual, no shortage of excitement! Our fall semester registered a group of 83 fabulous students! Highlights included field trips to Boeing, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese garden and witnessing the “otter gate” controversy that occurred immediately after our visit! We were fortunate enough to see the beautiful Koi fish one day before a rogue otter broke into the garden and dined on the prized Koi! People tease me that it must have been the Flight Attendants that smuggled him into the gardens, but I fiercely defend my students and chalk it up to pure coincidence! Our image day field trip to Curlique salon saw our Flight Attendants transformed right before our eyes. We were treated to a day of pampering whereby Blanche MacDonald hair and makeup students gave our students a Flight Attendant makeup and “FA bun” experience! It is such a fantastic collaboration, and one of my favorite field trips, because who doesn’t love hair and makeup? And the results are jaw dropping, and “runway” model worthy I always say. And of course, what would a CTC Flight Attendant program be without an airport fam tour to YVR! Named North America’s best airport, YVR is a thrilling and exciting field trip. Familiarizing ourselves with YVR, from a Flight Attendant’s perspective, is an important part of our learning process and always fun. Moving on to the highlight of the year (drum roll please…) is the partnership between Flair Airlines and Canadian Tourism College! Flair Airlines and CTC held their first-ever recruitment event at our Vancouver Campus on Friday December 13th! Identifying and interviewing current CTC students and alumni for their next FA hiring phase. We are incredibly honoured for the opportunity … thank you Flair Air.

For me, this past August I was blessed and oh so lucky to have married the love of my life. We travelled to Cannon Beach, Oregon for our honeymoon and experienced the gorgeous and rugged Oregon coast. I have always wanted to see this spectacular part of the world and who better to experience travel with than your best friend and partner.

I am grateful to be a team member of Canadian Tourism College as a Program Lead and Flight Attendant Instructor. I am so thankful for my work family, they are an assorted blend of amazing people. We laugh, we cry, we collaborate, and together we are constantly working towards one common goal, to give our students the best experience, knowledge and education. My fellow instructors are an assembly of professionals with vast amounts of industry experience. If ever in doubt, I, without hesitation, lean on my colleagues for their insight and their expertise. A different perspective is always welcome and you can always learn something from everyone.

I am blessed to have the privilege of sharing what I love. My students often tell me that when I speak about aviation my eyes light up, it must be all that jet fuel in my veins lol. But seriously, when you talk about what drives you, what you are passionate about, it is not work but a labour of love. I love what I do (best job ever) and I hope that I can continue to inspire, mentor and coach future aviators. #sharewhatyouknow

I am grateful for my amazing, beautiful students. Thank you for travelling from all parts of the globe to take the Flight Attendant course with me. My life is enhanced by individuals from all walks of life, different cultures, and circumstances. You give me my “ikigai”, a sense of purpose and a reason to get up in the morning. You allow me to share my love and passion for aviation, listen to my “Crew” stories and laugh at my corny Flight Attendant jokes. Every one of our classes are different and thrilling, no two days are ever the same. Much like the job of a Flight Attendant! We laugh, we cry, we have fun, we joke, we are serious and I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is no better gift than being your “wing” teacher, lifting you and gently nudging you towards a career in the skies. You have left an incredible mark on my life and help shape me into the person I am today.

Thank you to all the airlines that have given my students their dream careers! It is such a rewarding feeling when one of my graduates messages me with a picture of themselves in that coveted Flight Attendant uniform. Congratulations to all of my grads that have “landed” a position in the airline industry, I couldn’t be more happy and proud of you. Your success puts the biggest smile on my face! My mission is to have my Instagram page filled with CTC graduates hired by airlines from all over the world! I can’t forget my dearest partners, colleagues and friends … Leah and Maria. Without the both of you there would be no Flight Attendant Program. I always speak to our students being in great hands because of our diverse airline experience; Emirates, Philippine Airlines and Air Canada respectively. Thank you for all of the hard work, dedication, heart and love that we pour into our students and program. We are an amazing team and together we look forward to taking the Flight Attendant program to reach new altitudes.

Thank you to my dearest husband, family and friends, you all mean the world to me. Thank you all for your unwavering support, encouragement and love. I wouldn’t be here without you. #familyiseverything

On Friday, December 20, I will bid adieu to another amazing Crew. It is always a bittersweet time for me because we have been together through thick and thin for the past twelve weeks. We get to know each other’s personalities, we laugh, we cry, we challenge each other, we strive to make each other better. Each semester brings new friendships, new opportunities, and a new outlook. It has been quite a ride, and as attached as I am to them I know that they have found their wings and it’s time to let go. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being your instructor. #withoutchangethereisnogrowth

Thank you 2019, you have been a blessing. As we close out this year and I reflect upon the past year and decade I have learned and grown from every experience, good or bad. And as we look to the new year and new decade the future looks so bright for the aviation industry. As more people are travelling, airlines are growing and acquiring more aircraft. This translates into many more employment opportunities for our students. The CTC Flight Attendant Diploma is a powerful document, it represents hard work, discipline, and perseverance. Be proud of your accomplishment, with it the skies have no limits!

On behalf of the Canadian Tourism College Flight Attendant Program, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. Our heartfelt thanks to gratitude to all of our students for sharing your journey with us. We wish you much luck in your future endeavors and look forward to you sharing your next chapter with us. You have found your wings, now you must fly.

Much love and blessings,

Christina xo
