5 Reasons Why Travelling is Good for You

At Canadian Tourism College, we (obviously) love travel. Both our faculty and students are here because we are passionate about seeing the world. But what are the benefits? Why are we so nuts about tourism? Read on to find our top reasons why we think travel is so good for you.

Make new friends

Travelling gives you the opportunity to meet people from all over the globe. Not only will you get to know the locals, it’s also likely you will become fast friends with fellow travelers who are living a similar experience to you. Being somewhere unfamiliar will make you want to find a way to connect, so even people who are normally introverted will usually find they are more open to meeting new people. Remember, the next person you meet could give you advice on the next must-see spot or help you to avoid a disappointing activity. You might even go on an adventure together and become friends!

Get a better understanding of the world

It’s difficult to truly understand another culture without going out and experiencing it for yourself. What we read online or watch in videos gives just a taste of what other parts of the world are like, and the information we receive is often shared from a limited perspective. It’s absolutely life-changing to be able to immerse yourself in a culture different from your own. You can visit a temple, watch a traditional dance, taste an authentic food; there are so many ways to experience all that a country has to offer. Choose what interests you and get ready to learn!

Travel is a mood-booster

While taking a trip probably isn’t going to solve all your problems, it does provide a much-needed break from work and any day-to-day stress you might be experiencing. It’s your vacation, do you want to spend it lounging poolside? Or would you prefer an adventure, trekking up a mountain or exploring underwater caves? Travel gives you the freedom to do whatever you want, which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen a whole lot at home. Escape, restore, and come back feeling exhilarated from your experiences.

Gain a new perspective

Sometimes people lose sight of what’s important in life; it happens to the best of us. When we get used to doing the same things every day, we build ourselves a bubble and can forget there is an entire world of possibilities out there. Travel is a great opportunity for personal growth. So, get out there and be inspired, find a new appreciation for your life at home, and try and see what the world looks like through someone else’s eyes.

Create memories that last a lifetime

As the saying goes, “travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer”. We may gain some temporary happiness from buying material things, but who really reminisces about that time you bought shoes five years ago? The sights you see, the relationships you form, the experiences you have (good and bad), will stay in your memory forever. Travel is an escape from the norm and the best learning opportunity you can have. So get out there! You won’t regret it.
